Design Tips To Make The Most Of Small Bathroom Space

Bathrooms tend to be the smallest room in the house, and present unique challenges when carrying out design projects.

Whether you are a professional designer or an enthusiastic amateur, here are some handy tips to make the most of limited bathroom space.

Install underfloor heating

Electric underfloor heating can be a great space-saver in a small bathroom.

The bathroom will be kept comfortable and warm, but without the need for a bulky radiator. Removing the radiator will instantly free up more space which can be put to other uses when designing the bathroom.

Underfloor heating has other advantages beyond saving space. It is quiet, energy efficient and creates a natural warmth in the room.

Install a shower curtain

A shower curtain can save space compared to a glass shower door.

You won’t be able to store anything besides the shower if it has a glass door that moves in and out. Installing a back and forth shower curtain will free up this space for extra storage.

Mount the towel rack

If space is at a premium, you can mount your towel rack on the bathroom door or the shower door if you have one.

You will still have a towel within easy reach, with a storage solution that only takes a few inches.

Use wall mounted taps

If you are able to install it, a wall-mounted tap allows you to use a narrower sink, freeing up floor space.

Even if you have a traditional bathroom design a wall-mounted tap won’t look out of place.

Other tricks

There are other tricks you can use when designing the bathroom. While these may not increase the amount of storage space available, they will make the bathroom seem larger.

A large mirror, for example, will give the feeling of additional space and make the bathroom seem larger. It will also mean the mirror can be used by two people at once, which may not be ideal, but can be convenient.

Also, if you paint the bathroom walls white this will reflect light more easily, giving the appearance of additional space.

This can require a lot of maintenance however, as white paint tends to show up any marks more easily.

If you don’t want to clean the walls every day, you can try painting the walls with wide stripes. This will also trick the eye intro seeing extended space.

It can be difficult to make the most of your bathroom space, but these tips should help you when you begin your design project.
